One way that intracellular RNA is protected from degradation by RNase is through 5’ capping and poly-A adenylation on the 3’ end. This increases the half-life of the RNA and allows it to mediate its function before it is degraded. The other way is the protection by ribonucleoproteins and ribonuclease inhibitors.
