Human activity such as pollution from animal factory farming and fossil fuel combustion, plastic and trash in our oceans, overfilled land fills, and many more activities. Human activities contribute to climate change acceleration (aka global warming) at an alarming and unprecedented rate, which results in loss of habitat and/or lack of genetic variation (aka biodiversity). This equals a rapid loss of species because these species have no habitat, or their genetic pool is too small and they die off.

Ecosystems are delicate - they can only stand so much change or stress during a given time period. In other words, if one or two species contribute to an ecosystem and those one or two species go extinct, the entire ecosystem web can deteriorate and more species die exponentially. This is the other part of what is happening.
