Why will the herbs and shrubs most likely replace the lichens and mosses?

    Lichens break down rock and form soil, grasses, shrubs and herbaceous plants are the first to follow lichens as the new soil is not deep enough for larger organisms such as trees, in addition these plants grow very quickly and secure the soil in place which sets the stage for larger plants to colonize overtime
