A true-breeding tall pea plant with white flowers is crossed with a true-breeding plant with red flowers. All the offspring have red flowers. In the next generation one quarter of the plants have red flowers.

What one word characterizes each genotype of the parent generation of plants?

    Both parent plants were true breeding. Since all of the individuals of the F1 generation are the same color, both parental plants must be true breeding. If either of the parents had two different kinds of alleles, two different phenotypes would appear amongst the F1 offspring.
