In a gram-positive bacteria a polysaccharide serves as specific adhesin To effectively achieve adherence to host surfaces, many bacteria produce multiple adherence factors called adhesisns. Which are expressed by both pathogenic bacteria and saprophytic bacteria. Therefore a drug that blocks adhesins on the surface of a bacteria or any other pathogen, makes it impossible for a bacteria to survive in the host.
