In meiosis, the original cells are diploid i. e. double number of chromosomes.

Explanation: Meiosis is a type of cell division in which a single parent cell is divided into four daughter cells having half number of chromosome. The original or parent cell is divided into the two daughter cells in meiosis 1. Both parent and daughter cells are diploid. But in the end of meiosis 2, these two daughter cells are again divided into four daughter cells. These daughter cells are haploid i. e. half number of chromosome.
