Typhoid fever is caused by bacteria in contaminated food or drink. In 1903, an outbreak of typhoid fever in Ithaca, New York, killed almost 80 people. In addition, more than 1,000 Ithaca residents became sick with the disease. The population shares the public water source.     I think that this would be a density-independent factor.

    It is independent of the density because all the people share the water in this area: so if 10 people lived there, 10 would be exposed to the bacteria, but if 1000 lived there all 1000 would be exposed to the contaminated water.

    If the bacteria was transmitted from human to human then the density would matter.
