    -The bacterial pathogen, Listeria monocytogenes, grows in the cytoplasm of host cells and spreads intercellularly using a form of actin-based motility mediated by the bacterial proteins.

    -Microfilaments are filaments in the cytoplasm of eukaryotic cells that form part of the cytoskeleton. The polymers of these linear filaments are flexible but still strong, resisting crushing and buckling while providing support to the cell.

    -Intracellular bacteria constantly encounter the dynamic host cytoskeletal network and have evolved methods to use actin filaments or microfilamens and other related proteins to facilitate infection. An example is Listeria monocytogenes.
