    The Woese-FOX system of classification had three kingdoms in contrast to the Whittaker system's five kingdoms. However, both used information from genetic analysis about the cell biology of prokaryotic organisms to recognize divisions between types of prokaryotes and create separate kingdoms for the distinct types.
