How does the brain's energy consumption depend on mental activity?

    Because mental activity requires brain energy. When you do heavy mental activity you're burning up more energy than you would if you were to not think and do nothing. For this reason, mental activity does increase the energy consumption of your brain with the primary source of energy being glucose.
