The autonomic nervous system of human body have two division: Sympathetic and Parasympathetic division. These two division of autonomous nervous system have antagonistic effects on the body organs. Sympathetic division innervate in case of emergency. It performs for "fight or flight" response. In such situation, Sympathetic nervous system speeds up heart, increases blood pressure, increase sweet glands secretion, makes more glucose available in blood for body's energy and as such. It dilates pupil focusing for distant vision.

Whereas, Parasympathetic nervous system relaxes the body. It innervate for the resting of the body and respond for rest and digest mechanism. Parasympathetic nervous system slows down heart rate and activates gut for digestion. It contracts pupil for focusing on near vision.
