Why is it difficult to know the impacts of deep sea mining?

A. It has never been tried successfully, so we don't know exactly how it can be done.

B. It is only done in environmentally sensitive areas where the organisms are being harmed in many ways already, and it is difficult to know the effects of mining.

C. We know relatively little about deep sea ecosystems, making it harder to assess the impact of mining.

D. Most countries have laws against it so the impacts have not been tested.

The answer is C. Very little of the oceans have been explored, especially the deep seas and oceans hence little is known about the ecosystems in these regions (especially abyssalpelagic zones). Deep-sea mining, therefore, can have an impact on these ecosystems that humans do not currently decipher.
