    The molecules in both the liquid and gas phases exhibit similar composition. The forces in between the molecules dissociate and hence results in the change of phase. The molecules in the gas phase possess more degrees of freedom in comparison to the liquid and hence greater kinetic energy.

    In a gas, molecules are held by weak Vander waal forces. As a result, molecules move much more rapidly as they have high kinetic energy and due to this there will be more number of collisions.

    This makes molecules of a gas expand easily into the surroundings.

    On the other hand in a liquid, molecules are held by strong intermolecular forces of attraction as compared to gaseous molecules. Hence, liquid molecules have kinetic energy due to which less number of collisions take place.

    Therefore, liquid molecules do not expand readily into the surroundings.

    Thus, we can conclude that the gas particles move faster, have the same molecular composition, and have weaker attractions between them than the liquid particles, represents comparison between molecules of a gas and and a liquid.
