A squirrel has 40 pairs of chromosomes 80 total after mitosis each daughter has 40 pairs of chromosomes which is equal to 80 chromosomes so totally 160 chromosomes and 80 pairs of chromosomes are present in both daughter cells.

In mitosis, the number of chromosome is double i. e. diploid because in mitosis replication of chromosome occurs which results in two identical copies of chromosome.
