Carcinogens are substances that are commonly known to cause cancer. The condition that might occur when a substance causes unregulated and uncontrolled cell growth and development is called cancer. Cancer can be life-threatening because the cells will grow rapidly causing tumor development. As the tumors become larger, there is a greater chance that the cells can spread to surrounding cell structures or body organs.
