Interphase is the phase of mitosis where the cell is undergoing replication of its chromosomes to make an identical somatic cell. This process requires the cohesive efforts of many proteins acting as enzymes to break down the nuclear envelope, uncoil, duplicate, and proofread the complementary strand, ensuring no errors were made. While proteins carry out many fucntions within a cell, one of their main properties falls within the mediation of metabolic processes.
