The control of infectious disease remains challenging a century after the understanding of infectious disease began because of the following reasons:

    1. Hygiene: Poor hygiene contribute to the spread of various infectious diseases. The cleanliness of the neighbourhood in developing and underdeveloped countries is low because of careless dumping of thrash and ignorance of local government.

    2. Lack of disease awareness: People are not aware of the various diseases they can get by living in a unhygienic place.

    3. Feasibility of diagnosis test: It is not feasible for many low earning group of people to take a diagnosis test. They choose to visit the hospital only when the symptoms take toll on their lifestyle. In the meantime, they become the carriers and spread the disease.

    4. Development of antibiotic resistance: Reckless use of antibiotics have made it harder to develop new antibiotics against the resistant strain of bacteria.

    5. Evolution of strains of bacteria and virus: Influenza virus is a classical case. It has evolved many different strains that infect birds, animals and humans. The rapid evolution of strains make it harder to come up with a cure or a diagnosis of the disease.

    6. Misdiagnosis: Many diseases have overlapping symptoms. This makes it harder to correctly diagnose and identify the kind of disease. The infectious influenza flu has a symptom akin to that of common cold. This can contribute to the spread.

    7. Incomplete discovery of disease carriers: Carriers spread diseases to humans. With evolution of new strains of bacteria and viruses, the carriers have changed. The new carriers can cause harm and spread the infectious disease.
