When analyzing relationships among a particular group of taxa, how does a biologist decide which trees are the most parsimonious?

    In the analysis of phylogeny, parsimony means that a hypothesis of relationships that requires the smallest number of character changes is most likely to be correct. To decide, it should be remembered that all other things being equal, the best hypothesis is the one that requires the fewest evolutionary changes.
