This is because rabbits are forced to find food in such poor vegetation when the soil is covered in ice or snow. Their diet is totally altered because they are forced to feed on twigs, barks, and buds of bushes and trees. Sometimes, with such starvation level they are forced to eat their own feces in able to adapt to the environment.
