Arable land or land good for plant cultivation and farming is harmful to native species when used recklessly. The native trees close to farms are cleared in the process to eliminate the competition with crops for water and nutrients. The native animals and birds also loose their shelter to farm lands. The good bacteria and decomposers that live in the soil are also harmed if chemicals are used in the cultivation of plants.

The southeast Asia has large swaths of arable land. Crops like rice, maize, wheat and numerous vegetables are cultivated on them. This food supports the life of millions of people that live there.
