I believe the answer is that in ethyl alcohol fermentation CO2 is also produced. The end product of ethyl alcohol fermentation has only 2 carbons, where the end product of lactic acid fermentation. Lactic acid fermentation is a metabolic process by process by which glucose and other six-carbon sugars are converted into cellular energy and metabolite lactate. Alcohol fermentation is a biological process which converts sugars such as glucose, fructose, and sucrose into cellular producing ethanol and carbon dioxide as a by-product.
