The moon is in the direction of the sun when it is new. The glare of the sun makes it not visible ...

Venus appears to be in new phase when it is opposite the sun from the earth or directly between the sun and the earth, but again, like the moon, is not visible ... nor is it visible during full phase as this is not possible ... Venus would have to be opposite the earth from the sun to appear completely full.
