The hot springs and geysers at Yellowstone National Park in the northwestern part of the United States are a result of the geologic activity that occurs in this part of the country. Namely, this part of the country is lying above area were there's plate boundary, which causes the adjustments in the crust, creation of faults, and enables the high pressure and temperatures as well as the magma from the mantle layer to come to the surface. Because in the crust bellow the Yellowstone Nation Park there's enormous pressure and very high temperature, the water heats up deep into the ground, thus creating the hot springs and geysers. The shooting of the water few meters into the air that appears at the geysers is because of the high pressure bellow it.

The hot springs can be used for saunas, while the geysers are used mainly as a tourist attraction, both of which bring in nice income.
