Mitosis is a type of cell division which produces daughter cells with exactly the same chromosome number or genetic material.

This type of cell division is used for the growth, repair and maintenance of the cells but some cells so not resemble the zygote like genetic constituent that is variation is introduced. This is the result of a process called cellular differentiation which differentiates the zygotic cell to become specialized performing different functions as in multicellular organisms.
