An emergency department nurse assesses a male client brought in by a law enforcement officer. the client was in jail and tried to hang himself with his shirt. physically the client is stable, but emotionally he continues to state that he wants to die. the nurse identifies factors indicating a high risk of suicide. what is the risk factor that is considered the most "lethal?"

    The most lethal risk factor would be suicide attempt.

    In this case, the patient already has a suicide attempt by trying to hang himself with his shirt. An attempt to suicide is much more lethal risk factor than having an idea to do suicide.

    An attempt to suicide is already fulfill the inpatient criteria for psychiatric problem.
