Amoxicillin is a broad-spectrum antibiotic widely used for certain bacterial infections in the ear, nose, throat, genitourinary tract, skin, lower respiratory tract, and its also used to treat gonnorhea. Amoxicillin is a fairly strong drug, and it can elicit an allergy to patients even to those who had used the drug before and did not experienced any untoward problems. If the patient had symptoms such as difficulty in breathing, itching, and untoward swelling or lump in the throat when receiving treatment with penicillins like amoxicillin, sulbactam, ampicillin, methicillin, or penicillin G, the nurse should discontinue giving amoxicillin and report to the doctor right away.
