An enzyme known to catalyze the cleavage of di-saccharides is added to a pure sample of an unknown carbohydrate. Infrared spectroscopy on the resulting solution reveals the presence of two separate peaks between 1760 cm⁻¹ and 1665 cm⁻¹.

    These two regions and region in between 1760 cm-1 and 1665 cm-1 is carbonyl strech indicative. therefore, two different peaks indicates two type of carbonyl functional group.
