What will be the effect of placing a plant cell in a hypotonic solution? A) The plant will wilt. B) The cell will shrink in size. C) The cell will remain unaffected. D) The cell will expand and become turgid.

    D) The cell will expand and become turgid.

    The plant cell will basically absorb all the water by osmosis and swell, but because it has a cell wall it will become turgid.

    D. Hypotonic means the solution is greater inside the cell than outside the cell. In plant cells, this causes the vacuoles to become turgid.
