El aparato de Golgi es un complejo de vesículas planas, cada una de ellas rodeada por una membrana, y apiladas las unas sobre las otras.
- Origen y función del aparato de Golgi
El aparato de Golgi debe su nombre al médico italiano Camillo Golgi, que lo describió por primera vez a finales del siglo XIX. Es aquí donde son elaborados los productos sintetizados por el retículo endoplasmático, y almacenados en pequeñas vesículas excretoras, que son transportadas a su vez a la superficie interna de la membrana citoplasmática.
Cuando estas pequeñas vesículas entran en contacto con la membrana citoplasmática se funden con ella, descargando su contenido fuera de la célula: este proceso de denomina exocitosis y es el mecanismo a través del cual las células liberan las sustancias que producen.
