When oxidation of fatty acids occur in the liver, the bodies generated from the synthesis of Acetyl CoA are called Ketone bodies. This bodies are formed for the metabolism of the brain during a period of starvation. The fact that ketone bodies form from a great amount of fatty acids deployed from adipose tissue for brain metabolism during fasting is very important.
