    The Spleen is one of the organs that is present in the lymphatic system of the body, it is in fact the largest organ in the lymphatic system. It is an important organ used in the defense of the body for infections.

    The spleen can be found under the ribs by the left side of the abdomen. It is responsible for carrying out a number of functions in the body. Those functions are:

    1. The spleen filters out the blood in the body system to remove any form of microbial contamination or antigen that could be found there.

    2. The spleen serves as a filter for the removal of old red blood cells present in the body.

    3. The spleen serves as a place to storage white blood cells, red blood cells, platelets and antibodies.

    4. The spleen is a very sensitive organ in that it detects the presence of any infection in the body and this in turn cause it to produce white blood cells that are necessary to fights of the infection from bacteria, viruses e. t. c, thereby protecting the immune system of the body.
