    Smooth muscles exhibit a slow start of contraction which lasts for longer duration resulting in slow relaxation.

    The contraction of smooth muscle fibers relies on myosin light chain kinases which are slow in functioning. Slower contraction and relaxation of smooth muscle fibers is due to slow entry and exit of calcium ions out of them which in turn delays contraction and relaxation respectively.
