There are two processes involved in the breakdown of the sedimentary rocks and carrying away rock particles, these are weathering and erosion.

The breakdown of large rocks and into smaller particles is called as weathering. This is done by two means mechanical weathering and chemical weathering.

Then the broken down rock particles are carried away by the wind and water to form soil, called as erosion.
