Since the cells give out an receive all of the materials through their cell membranes, the surface-volume ratio of the cell is the defining characteristic for the efficiency of cell transfer.

Therefore, if the ratio is in favor of surface, meaning that considering its volume, the potato cube/cell has a big surface, the transport in and out of the cell would be more efficient.
