What happens if a pregnant woman smokes, drinks, or does drugs during her pregnancy? The baby is very likely to be born with physical disabilities. The critical period doesn't exist once a woman digests harmful toxins. Harmful toxins negatively affect a baby's development only in the critical period. No answer is completely accurate.

    Even though the critical period answer might seem correct or the last one talking about none of them being accurate. The first one is, the toxic substances contained in alcohol, cigarettes, and drugs will damage any baby at any stage. They pass directly to the developing fetus altering its development. It is an atrocity and ends up in organic damage to the baby. The majority of the time they are devastating for the fetus and if it survives is going to be very affected by the effects of the toxins.
