Aortic regurgitation is a condition in which the heart's aortic valve is loosely closed which result in the flow of the blood from the aorta into the left ventricle in the reverse direction during ventricular diastole. Therefore, the cardiac muscle is compelled to function harder than normal. Left ventricular hypertrophy, shortness of breath (dyspnea) and pulmonary edema are the effect that aortic regurgitation produces in the body.
