In general, how are the causes of mass extinctions different from the causes of background extinction?

Mass extinctions generally result from the slow accumulation of changes to the environment while background extinction results from loss of genetic diversity.

    Background extinctions are a normal extincrion rate. Slow over time.

    Mass extinctions are fast and widespread. Ex. When Asteroid hit earth and killed out dinosaurs.

    So with that being said, I would say the third choice (C) would be what I would chose.
