Physarum polycephalum is a slime mold and it is often found inside decaying logs. It looks out for bacteria or spores, grows on then and digest them through its body. It basically crawls towards its food, encloses it, and release enzymes to digest the food.

Physarum polycephalum, is a protist with several cellular forms and wide geographic distribution. To get food, this protista sends biomass that exploits the environment. This occurs because it has a cytoskeleton and proteins that cause these contractions. This mechanism, which is purely physical and not chemical, promotes the pumping that causes the margins of this protista to grow towards the favorable environment.
