In the Avery experiment, it was proved that the genetic material is DNA not protein.

The key components of the Griffith Experiment, in which the mice was injected with live bacteria of one strain and dead bacteria of another strain.

The disease was developed in the species of mice infected with dead bacterial strain.

If the enzyme would have digested all the nucleic acid then the mice would have not transformed because the nucleic acid would have been destroyed.
