How do you account for the terrific growth of american industry prior to the civil war?

    Firstly from the early 1800s to shortly before the civil war America was going through an industrial revolution of sorts which saw the proliferation of factories in the north. This was coupled with an economic movement from agricultural business to a wage system. Also the improvement of transport such as railroads contributed to easier shipping.
