The European Community's Directive on Data Protection strictly limits how database information is used and who has access to it. Some of the restrictions include registering all databases containing personal information with the countries in which they are operating, collecting data only with the consent of the subjects, and telling subjects of the database the intended and actual use of the databases. What effect might these restrictions have on global companies? In your opinion, should these types of restrictions be made into law? Why or why not? Should the United States bring its laws into agreement with the EU directive?

Answer:it prevents global companies from entering foreign market, it should be made into law to ensure security of members of the public, The United States should bring its law into agreement with the EU directive to ensure that sensitive information of the members of the public is protected and to ensure national security.

    Explanation:

Data protection is the act of keeping information within a specified boundary by putting in place a law to protect the information of members of the public whose information is stored in the database. However, the Data protection have effect on global companies in the sense that, it stands as an obstacle to them in entering foreign market to sell their products and services. It prevents them from having information that will facilitate their planning process which can quickly facilitate their movement into the foreign market in order to sell their products or services. This have an effect on their expansion policy and on their resolve to increase their profit.

In my opinion these types of restrictions should be made into law in order to ensure that members of the public are protected from having their information freely in the hands of those who will use such information to endanger their lives and also to ensure national security, because the protection of the security of the citizens is the justification for the existence of any governments all over the world.

The United States should bring its law into agreement with the EU directive in the sense that, the world is now a global village what happens in one country either positively or negatively could also happens in another country. Since the EU has put in place a Data protection policy to ensure that information of members of the public is protected and to limit those who have access to such information so as to ensure that such information do not get into the hands of those who intend to use such information to endanger the lives of the owner of such information. It is necessary for the United States to bring their law in agreement with the EU so as to ensure the protection of the personal information of their citizens whose information had been stored in the database so as to ensure that such information do not get into wrong hands, vis - a-vis those who will use such sensitive information to endanger the lives of members of the public and those who will use such information to undermine national security.
