Changes in technology or consumer demands can make it difficult for people to get jobs because the new requirements in that market may not be in line with the skills and knowledge that people have to offer at that particular time. For example during the transition into the digital era, there was a higher demand for a workforce that was skilled in using computers to perform specific tasks. This meant that if a person did not have these skills, they could have adapted by learning the skills afresh or risk losing their jobs.
