    Explanation:

    No of Failures Probability

    0 0.18

    1 0.28

    2 0.25

    3 0.18

    4 0.06

    5 0.04

    6 0.01

    EV of Number of failures = ∑ N*P (N)

    where p = probability of occurrence

    and n = no of failures

    The expected value is the sum of all the failures multiplied by their individual probabilities

    EV = (0*0.18) + (1 * 0.28) + (2 * 0.25) + (3 * 0.18) + (4 * 0.06) + (5 * 0.04) + (6 * 0.01)

    = 0 + 0.28 + 0.5 + 0.54 + 0.24 + 0.2 + 0.06

    = 1.82
