Given the ubiquitous nature of technology in our daily lives, digital forensics plays an important role in the live of nearly every citizen of a developed country. The movement of currency in electronic banking, the transactional nature of online purchasing, and the trade in intellectual properties like music and photos are done entirely within a network that may or may not be secure. A digital forensics specialist must be versed not only in how the technologies work but be able to share their data with others who can work to eliminate weaknesses within these protocols that affect nearly everyone with access to a device that connects them to the outside world in some way.
