Read the following scenario and determine whether the synergy is negative or positive. The Alpha Team has been meeting since the fall of 2016 with a singular task of developing an appraisal instrument for administrative assistants in the MNO company. Several members have dropped out due to lack of interest and had to be replaced. The team still does not have a prototype of the appraisal instrument. Is this positive or negative synergy?

    negative synergy

    Explanation:

Negative synergy is gotten when the value of the combined effort of different individuals is less than the value of one persons if it operated alone. This may happen if the merged firms or business experience issues which may started by vastly different leadership methods and company life styles.

We can see that several members have dropped and had to be replaced, even after that, with the negative synergy, they still do not have the prototype and their goals were not achieved.

    Negative synergy.

    Explanation:

Synergy is defined as the process by which different individuals and groups come together and pool their resources to achieve a common goal. The effect of their combined effort is more than the sum of each individual acting alone.

However when there is negative synergy, the combined effort is less that sum of individual efforts, that is the individuals acting alone can achieve more than working together.

Members are dropping off the Alpha team because of lack of interest and the team has not achieved any of its set goals. This is a negative synergy because the individuals working alone and interested in the project, would have made more progress than Alpha team.
