Currently segmenting a market only by using one variable is not very effective, you must use a mixture of variables.

For example, in the past latino communities were all considered the same, but they are not. Many times people thought that being latino was a race by itself. Now latinos are viewed differently since they are not a race, they are a culture that includes whites, african americans, native americans and mixed races. Within latino communities people have different education levels, income levels and behave differently. Also aren't considered to live all together in the same neighborhood anymore. In the 1950s in New Yook, you could segment latino markets because Puerto Ricans all lived in the Bronx, but that is not true anymore.

The same happens to rural residents, the redneck stereotype is useless. And we can go on for african american communities, hindu communities, LGTBs, etc. Right now what used to be considered "normal" before is seen as uncommon now.
