Specialized training and skills for a geologist could consist of for example, using the GPS to locate oneself in the field and locate outcrops of rock to relate them spatially and plot them on a map. It also can include geological mapping techniques both on the surface including the use of the Brunton commpass, taking strikes and dips, rock and mineral identification in the field, mapping structures like faults, etc and also underground mapping techniques.
