Would a flexible or a more formal structure be appropriate for each of these organizations?

    (a) a large department store - formal structure. In a large department store, they should use a formal structure because of the stability of their market. In a department store, decisions are made from CEO down the channels to lower level employees stocking the floor.

    (b) Big Five accountancy firm - flexible structure. Will allow for uncertainty. They should allow flexibility in how the firm is ran, especially since most employees will have similar skill sets.

    (c) a biotechnology company - flexible structure. Since skilled workers like scientists and doctors are running the show, they do not need the same formalities as a department store, allow more flexibility. They also need to be able to keep up with the changing times and changes in biotechnology.
