A trend extrapolation is detecting faulty underlying assumptions before forecasting errors can occur. This is to allow forecasters to place a trend that is evident over time, and then calculate it forward base on the calculated data relating rates of change. An example is detecting the climate of the day. Forecasting it is not easy since analysts have to extrapolate the past data to predict the future event.
