Domestic violence is not restricted to men abusing women, however society often restricts the options of a man who finds himself on the receiving end of domestic abuse. How has this affected the courts effectiveness at ruling in cases of domestic violence?

It depends on who the judge is. Some judges are bias and favor into the woman or man, while other judges stay neutral. Although, men on the receiving side is a surprise for us, the courts ruling in any case of domestic violence is the same regardless of gender (unless the judges is bias and favors into the woman or man).
